Corano Square clears DOT hurdle; council highlights downtown openings and development milestones

Fanwood council members reported progress on downtown redevelopment projects at the Dec. 15 meeting, saying Corano Square (the former AMP site) received final New Jersey Department of Transportation permits and can begin foundation work for Building A.
Council members said Building A will be the first residential unit closest to the daycare and will include a planned 5,000-square-foot restaurant. The redevelopment plan also includes demolition of an older structure and a temporary relocation of the existing liquor store while a new liquor-store facility is built closer to the street.
Economic development updates included a planned ribbon-cutting for Double Jelly, a new retail tenant next to the bagel shop set for Dec. 20, and two downtown storefronts that have pulled permits and are under construction (a light-beam therapy business and a hot-yoga studio). Council members urged residents to shop local during the holidays to support downtown businesses.
Council members framed the developments as long-awaited progress after protracted permitting and said volunteers and professional staff have been integral to moving the projects forward. They did not provide final construction schedules or financial details at the meeting.
