Douglas County announces Women’s History Month program, fair housing exhibit and donation drive

Douglas County officials used the March 17 Board of Commissioners meeting to publicize several upcoming community events and a countywide donation drive.
Chief Communications Officer Evette Jones invited residents to Chair Dr. Ramona Jackson Jones’s Women’s History Month program on Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Douglasville Conference Center; District 2 Commissioner Whitney Kenner Jones will serve as keynote speaker. A Fair Housing Exhibit, organized by the West Georgia Board of Realtors and sponsored by District 1 Commissioner Henry Mitchell III, will run March 23–April 25 at the former Boys and Girls Club site on Gurley Road; public hours are 2:00–6:00 p.m. daily with school visits from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Vice Chair Mark Alcarez will host a community meeting on Saturday, March 28 at 9:00 a.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church to discuss legislation, public safety and transportation. The county also announced an Emerging Leaders Cohort donation drive through April 3 to benefit Shinah Haven, a men’s temporary shelter served by the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Daily Bread Ministry of Hope. Requested items and drop-off locations were listed; the county provided a web contact for more information.
