Roaring Fork Safe Passages gave an introductory overview of an initiative to improve wildlife connectivity across highways through fencing, underpasses and, ultimately, larger wildlife crossings. The program’s organizers said an anonymous donor has offered a $10,000 match and that local counties and other partners are being invited to join stakeholder calls.
Board members discussed the project’s phased approach (initial work on fencing and underpasses with an eventual major overpass project), the need for mitigation planning and community engagement, and the potential for large capital costs. Members agreed not to endorse or pledge funds immediately but to attend stakeholder calls in May and to invite a fuller presentation in June so trustees and the board can evaluate a formal request.
