WCCUSD board elects new president and clerk, approves construction purchases and two policy updates

The West Contra Costa Unified School District board held its annual organizational meeting on Dec. 17 and approved routine and action items including officer elections, construction contract amendments and two policy updates.
Elections: Under board bylaws, the board nominated and elected Clerk Guadalupe Inana as board president and Trustee Demetrio Gonzalez Hoy as clerk. The president vote passed with a majority; the clerk vote also passed in a separate roll call.
Contracts and construction: The board delegated authority to the superintendent to negotiate a purchase-and-sale contract for the Richmond High solar system so modernization work can proceed; staff said the solar purchase is budgeted as part of the Richmond High construction project. The board also approved Amendment No. 4 to Alton Construction’s contract to proceed with site utilities and building pad work at the STE Elementary replacement while DSA reviews the building package.
Policy approvals: The board adopted revisions to BP 6142.7 to expand eligibility for physical education credit to include cheerleading, dance and drill; staff will publish administrative regulations and guidance to implement the change. The board also approved BP 1330 to clarify prohibited uses of district facilities and explicitly prohibit using district property to conduct immigration-enforcement activities without judicial process.
