Longwood to refurbish Sandalwood Park playground under grant for about $25,000

At the May 5 meeting the parks staff reported a grant-funded purchase order to refurbish playground equipment at Sandalwood Park.
Chris told the board the playground set is about 15 years old and that refurbishment under the grant will make it look "almost brand new" at a fraction of the cost. "You're talking about $25,000 versus 70," Chris said when comparing refurbishment to full replacement.
Why it matters: using grant funds and in-house staff for assembly could substantially reduce capital outlay while returning a safe, inspected playground to service. Staff said the park supervisor and crew will assemble the equipment and an inspection will follow before it opens to the public.
Next steps: staff will complete installation, schedule the safety inspection and report the results to the board.
