Committee members reviewed the proposed 2025—1026 school calendar and the survey responses that shaped it.
Staff said the district received 2,465 survey responses (1,126 from employees). The committee selected a calendar that begins teacher work on Monday, Aug. 3; staggers student start dates on Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug. 11; and schedules a two-day fall break on Oct. 12—13. Christmas break would begin on Wednesday, Dec. 23, and the last day for students would be Wednesday, May 26 with the last day for teachers on Thursday, May 27.
Administrators explained committee considerations, including avoiding a long stretch between Labor Day and November with no days off for students and ensuring high-school athletes could take advantage of a fall break. The committee said professional-learning dates will be finalized after principals provide input and the calendar will return for a second reading.
Next steps: staff will finalize placeholders for professional learning, incorporate principals' feedback and present the calendar for a second reading at the board.
