Architects and project staff asked the committee to ratify substantial completion for the renovation and addition project for the St. Charles Parish School Board facility so the district can continue to use the space while punch-list work continues. The architect of record said the structure is ready for use though there are remaining punch-list items.
Staff also described Building B (a warehouse addition with conference space and physical plant functions) and invited board members to an open-house tour. Administrators said several board leaders had already approved early use, and the committee was asked to officially accept the addition.
On bids, staff sought authorization to advertise for multiple elementary auxiliary gyms (restrooms, water stations and storage). Presenters said the bid-to-completion timeline is roughly 12—34 months and discussed budget numbers; an earlier figure of $8 million was clarified during discussion to an estimated $8.2 million for the package at one point in the presentation.
The committee also reviewed a proposed $2.1 million budget to replace stadium turf at Desteran and Hanville high schools. Staff said new materials include a shock pad for player safety and a cooling layer expected to reduce surface temperature by about 20—20'F compared with older fields. Engineering staff noted site-specific drainage needs at Desteran (where a pump and conveyance improvements may be required) and said those mitigation measures are included in the project design within the $2.1 million budget.
Next steps: bid authorizations will proceed to advertisement and eventual board consideration; staff will arrange the Building B open house and return final cost and contract awards to the board as bids are received.
