Columbia County’s Planning Commission on March 19 recommended conditional approval for a major S1 revision to permit a freestanding monument-style sign in the 20-by-20 visibility triangle at 830 Louisville Road for Trinity Baptist Church.
Nana, planning staff, explained the site on the north side of Louisville Road and showed that the proposed replacement sign would sit in a better position than the existing sign, which appears partly in the right of way. Staff recommended approval provided the minimum five-foot setback from the property line is shown on the submitted site plan.
Pastor Richard Bean (who gave his name for the record) said the old sign was sitting partly in the right of way and that shifting the new sign back 5 feet avoids prohibitively expensive elevation work given the steep slope toward a drainage ditch and septic field. A commissioner moved to recommend conditional approval of file RZ26-03-10; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Columbia County Board of Commissioners for final action on April 21, 2026.
