Residents and trustees reported extensive local sign-ups for the EPA’s TAP (Testing and Assistance Program) to address lead and other water issues and urged neighbors to complete applications and follow up with the village or the EPA.
Miss Sanders, who led outreach activity at Village Hall, said staff processed about 375 applications at the mayor’s office before the March 7 deadline but cautioned that many files were incomplete. "We processed about 375 applications in the mayor's office in and before March 7th," she said. Sanders also reported that roughly "700 residents signed up" for the program but that about 178 of those applications were incomplete and need additional information or follow-up.
Trustees and staff described a coordinated effort: the village posted large signs, helped residents complete and scan materials at Village Hall, and worked directly with EPA contacts to resolve rejected or incomplete submissions. Village staff encouraged residents who received a denial or incomplete notice to hold on to their documentation and contact the village or the EPA for assistance. Officials said TAP testing may continue through July 27 and that residents who were initially marked noncompliant may be able to schedule another test.
What’s next: residents who applied but have not been contacted should reach out to Village Hall or the EPA contact provided by village staff; trustees said the village will continue legal and administrative efforts to secure long-term water solutions.
