Council backs façade grants for two hotels and clears new downtown book-lounge liquor license

Two Rivers council approved façade-improvement grants and a new business liquor license during the April 6 meeting.
Council approved a reimbursement grant of up to $17,536 for Cool City Motel (3009 Lincoln Ave). Owner Brian Konjerski described a comprehensive rehab of the motel and said the investment will support summer-season occupancy and local economic activity. The council characterized the grant as the type of investment the program exists to support.
Separately, the council approved a grant not to exceed $10,000 for the Lighthouse Inn (1515 Memorial Drive) to fund exterior lighting and signage. Applicant Jim Van Lanen Jr. described plans to update four signs and add LED downlights to improve the property's visibility and support the restaurant operation.
Council also authorized the city clerk to issue a new combination Class B fermented malt beverage and Class B intoxicating liquor license to Uncorked Book Lounge LLC at 1610 Washington Street (agent Karen Kachkoski), pending inspections and background checks; the business expects to open in early May.
