Michael, a long‑time planning staff member, told the Village of Antioch Planning & Zoning Board on Nov. 26 that he will retire at the end of the year after roughly 25 years in public service.
"I will be retiring at the end of this year," Michael said, thanking current and past commissioners and listing past chairpersons he worked with. He said the village is interviewing candidates to fill the development director role and hopes the position will be filled by late winter so the new staff member can attend upcoming commission meetings.
The announcement came during the meeting’s brief announcements period. Commissioners and attendees praised Michael’s contributions; one commissioner said he had “always done an outstanding job in putting things together for us” and the commission offered thanks for his nine years with the village staff.
No formal personnel action was taken at the meeting. Staff said recruitment is underway and that a successor could be in place to work with the board at meetings in January or February.
