Kodiak Island Borough Assembly adopts ordinance to change budget submission deadlines

In a staff report, Mr. Whiteside said the current timeline required service-area budgets to be submitted to clerks only one day before the full budget is due to the assembly and that the ordinance would remove the requirement to include the school district request in the borough budget and budget message. "This will give staff additional time and flexibility to prepare a more complete, accurate, and workable operating budget and capital plan," Mr. Whiteside said.
Assembly members called the measure a housekeeping fix. "Seems like housekeeping — the more flexibility we can provide folks that are preparing budgets the better," Mr. Smiley said.
The assembly voted by roll call. Mr. Ames, Mr. Smiley, Mr. Whiteside and Mr. Woods recorded "yes" votes and the motion passed (recorded in the meeting as "Motion passes 40").
