Kern County proclaims March 16–20, 2026 as National Surveyors Week

The Kern County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proclamation declaring March 16–20, 2026 as National Surveyors Week.
Supervisor Parlier introduced the proclamation and the board voted to approve it. Public Works Director Josh Chaplin invited County Surveyor Jeremy Brock to the dais and presented him with a certificate from the board.
County Surveyor Jeremy Brock described the Surveyor’s Office duties, including preserving land‑survey records, maintaining government survey monuments and producing base maps and legal descriptions used for public‑works design and right‑of‑way work. He highlighted the office’s map room and said staff support more than 76 actively maintained GIS data layers countywide.
Roeland van der Valk of the Bakersfield chapter of the California Land Surveyors Association and Christy Asher, president of the state association, thanked the board for the recognition, emphasized the need to recruit younger professionals and noted the association’s 60th anniversary. The board then recessed briefly before resuming regular business.
