Rob Provos of the external audit firm presented the audit for the year ending June 30, 2024, and said the firm issued an unmodified opinion on both the financial statements and the single audit. "We give an opinion on the financial statements and on a single audit and they're both the an unmodified opinion, which is the best opinion you can get," Provos said.
Provos summarized operating-fund highlights: the general fund balance was reported at approximately $35.6 million on a budgetary basis; enterprise funds showed mixed results, with food-service and community-school programs moving in different directions year over year. He said food service results were down while community-school revenues were also lower after increases in costs for supplies and salaries. The auditors noted last year included a one-time sale of assets that boosted the prior-year bottom line.
On grants, Provos said the auditors found one matter requiring action after testing grant compliance and controls, describing the issue as largely clerical and related to fiscal-year coding and documentation in a small number of sampled cases. "We did find in certain cases the wrong FIS of year was used; there were also clerical errors," he said, and recommended corrective steps. The board's finance committee said it will approve a corrective action plan to address the three items the auditors raised.
The presentation also reviewed state grant timelines and the rollout of a two-year pilot for state reporting deadlines. Audit firm staff offered to answer follow-up questions and the board pointed to the corrective action motion on the business agenda for formal response.
Next steps: the board will consider and vote on the auditor-recommended corrective action plan as part of the business matters on tonight's agenda.
