The Hacienda la Puente Unified School District board on June 24 approved a series of items intended to preserve former district properties, to advance Measure BB projects and to adopt the 2025–26 budget.
Property preservation: The board passed Resolution 2024–25–47 declaring its intent to preserve the public-use designation of former school properties and later approved Resolution 2024–25–48 committing the former Valley Alternative School (Lomita property) for community educational use. The property-preservation votes followed debate and a failed amendment that would have allowed certain staff- or foster-youth housing exceptions; the final votes were recorded in roll call (resolutions passed by the recorded tallies shown on the meeting record).
Measure BB and contracts: The board approved an amendment to provide additional construction management services for the Wedgworth Elementary K–5 project for up to $215,000, which staff said covers delay-related costs tied to Southern California Edison utility delays; staff reported the overall project remains within the roughly $55 million budget. The board approved additional bond-related construction-management amendments for high-school work (not to exceed $673,360 in cumulative amendments) and delegated authority to accept completed projects and file notices of completion as needed.
Budget and reserves: The board adopted the district’s 2025–26 annual budget and approved a resolution designating committed general-fund components as committed fund balance (Resolution 2024–25–49). During discussion members cited specific earmarks in the committed funds, including seed funding for tutoring (discussion reference: approximately $1,350,000) and a Wilson High School press-box allocation (approximately $750,000). Staff said many committed items were carried forward from prior years and require annual board action to designate funds.
What happens next: staff will return with final project closeout numbers, timelines for bond projects and a schedule for communicating property-preservation plans. Board members asked for clear updates on expenditures and timelines before the district finalizes remaining construction phases.
