Yucaipa-Calimesa board certifies election, swears in new member and elects officers

The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District Board of Education on Dec. 17 certified the November 2024 election results, administered the oath of office to newly seated board member Regina Cruz and completed its annual organizational business, electing Kathy Bo as board president and Debbie Miller as clerk.

Superintendent staff administered the oath to Regina Cruz using the State of California wording. Chair (President Bogue) asked Cruz to ‘raise your right hand’ and led the recitation; family members photographed the newly sworn member after the ceremony.

During the organizational meeting the board nominated Kathy Bo for president; the motion was seconded and carried by roll-call/voice vote with the chair voting “I.” Debbie Miller was nominated and elected clerk under the same procedure. The board also confirmed representative appointments to various county and regional advisory committees, with unanimous votes on those items.

The board addressed the vacancy left by Bob Miller’s appointment to the Uka city council and voted to pursue an appointment process rather than a costly special election. Board members noted the city’s estimate for a special election could be in the neighborhood of $100,000; the board approved proceeding with an appointment (motion by Debbie Miller; second by Regina Cruz) with no cost to the district.

The meeting closed its organizational business after approving regular 2025 meeting dates and several committee nominations. All formal motions recorded in this item passed by unanimous voice vote.
