Procurement - The board approved a motion to purchase two electric vehicles for the Maintenance/Operations/Transportation (MOT) department using Department of General Services contracts. Finance staff corrected the funding source on the record (general fund with offsets from qualifying grants) before the vote.
Program status - The board approved placing the Newark teacher induction program into an inactive (paused) status rather than withdrawing it; trustees noted the inactive designation preserves the district’s option to reinstate the program within the commission’s allowable period.
Student discipline - After closed session and the hearing process the board reported it had upheld the teacher’s decision in one appeal. The board also took action on three expulsion matters: it approved a modification extending suspended enforcement for case E2425.01 (one semester), accepted E2425.02 as written, and extended suspended enforcement in case E2425.04.
Labor negotiations - The board opened and closed a public hearing on its initial sunshine proposal for successor bargaining with CSEA (2025–28) that lists reopeners including duties/hours, salaries, leaves, postings, and longer work schedules.
Next steps: Some agenda items (LCAP and budget) will return for formal approval at the June 25 meeting; staff will supply additional budget reconciliation memos requested by trustees.
