Superintendent highlights early‑year progress, facilities review and Golden Bell finalist honor

Superintendent Dr. Patrick Giddis Remongo told the Lynwood Unified School District board on Aug. 28 that the new school year is off to a busy start and praised staff for welcoming students during the first two weeks.
“It's hard to believe. Today marks day 12 of the new school year,” he said, thanking classified employees, district departments, teachers and school leaders for ensuring a smooth return to class. He highlighted recent back‑to‑school nights at Abbott Elementary, Helen Keller and Wilson and commended the district’s community schools partners for supporting families.
Remongo announced the facilities optimization committee will launch on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The committee will include 16 representatives — parents, labor partners, site leaders and district administrators — and will examine enrollment trends, school capacity, facility conditions and budget realities with an eye toward boundary recommendations, potential consolidation and other facility optimization strategies. He said the district has received more than 400 family and staff survey responses and that meetings will be livestreamed for transparency.
He also announced that Lynwood Unified has been named a finalist for the 46th annual California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell Awards for its work on transforming family engagement, including a parent university and parent affinity groups.
Remongo closed by thanking staff and the district equity team for their leadership and said the district will share updates as the CSBA validation visit and final review progress before October.
