Corinth council leans toward simpler downtown gateway design after consultant update

At a workshop on April 2, 2026, the Corinth City Council reviewed revised gateway and signage designs for downtown and signaled a preference for a simpler look that minimizes hanging side elements while favoring a taller median feature.

Mr. Cameron introduced the item and said staff had taken council feedback to the consultant. Melissa, the project presenter, showed three updated center-median designs and matching side elements, including versions with LED lighting and an option for streets without medians. She told the council the Economic Development Corporation had reviewed the options and found one configuration “sort of lopsided.”

A council member asked whether the elements would light at night; Melissa confirmed they were designed to illuminate. Several council members voiced a clear preference for the lower side elements and for the bottom-left median design shown in the packet. "I definitely like the ones better without the little dangly things on the side," a council member said. Another added, "I agree with Tina 100%. Like if it doesn't have a middle, do that. If it has it in the middle, it's too much." Council members also said that if the design includes a center logo, they did not want additional logos on the side elements.

Council feedback was procedural and design-focused only; there was no formal vote. Staff said they would return council comments to the consultant for refinement. The workshop then adjourned into the regular meeting.

Next steps: staff will have the consultant produce revised mock-ups that incorporate council preferences for review at a future meeting.
