County staff told the facilities committee that the Federal Aviation Administration identified seven trees at the west end of the county airport that penetrate the approach path for runway 12 and must be reduced to meet obstacle-clearance requirements.
Staff said they have contacted property owners; most have granted permission to survey and trim, and one property owner remains to be contacted. The county has budgeted the work and plans to complete the trimming, re-survey the approach, and submit the results to the FAA within the next couple of months. Staff said they will report back to the committee when the work is complete.
A committee member asked whether the county will contract the work to a tree service or complete it in-house; staff replied the project will be bid out and proceed under standard procurement practices. No formal resolution was required for the trimming; the item was discussed as a routine maintenance and safety action.
