Whitney High students and parents seek district help after pool scoreboard fails; community fundraising underway

Lauren Stanton, a Whitney senior and multi-sport athlete, told trustees that the scoreboard's console is broken and that the manufacturer has deemed the model "no longer serviceable," leaving the program with the option to purchase a new scoreboard. "The only option to be able to have a working scoreboard is to purchase a new one, which we estimate will cost $88,500," Stanton said.
Parents and boosters reported community fundraising with a notable $10,000 contribution from Nugget Market and more than $10,000 raised to date; volunteer organizers said they are seeking sponsorships and guidance from district facilities staff for permitting and installation. "We've secured $10,000 from the Nugget Market and are hoping to have the same success with Placer Valley Tourism," said Shannon Tinkler, a parent and booster.
Board reaction and next steps: Trustees acknowledged the facilities need and noted the group's planned presentation at an upcoming facilities meeting; one trustee asked to place an item on the April 2 agenda to discuss reallocating one-time reserve dollars to urgent facility requests.
