Pike County commissioners approve INDOT bridge amendment, EMS insurance renewal and a slate of routine business

The Pike County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine actions at its March 16 regular meeting, voting unanimously to accept an INDOT amendment that adds $154,000 to the Bridge 30 project, renew the county’s EMS insurance, and authorize claims and supplemental appropriations.
The meeting opened with President Mark Flint and Commissioners Jeff Nelson and Ryan Coleman present. After calling for additions to the March 2, 2025 minutes and receiving none, the board approved the minutes on a 3-0 vote on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Nelson, seconded by Commissioner Ryan Coleman. The board then approved claims for March 19, 2026, on a motion by Commissioner Ryan Coleman, seconded by Commissioner Jeff Nelson; the motion passed 3-0.
Highway Office Manager Melanie Britton told the commissioners that INDOT added $154,000 to the project for Bridge 30 on County Road 300 N; Commissioner Ryan Coleman moved to approve the INDOT amendment and Commissioner Jeff Nelson seconded. The motion carried 3-0.
County Administrator Kristi Dischinger reported the annual EMS insurance renewal would cost $51,600, up from $45,386 the previous year. EMS Director Chris Young clarified that insuring the remount ambulance is not included in that amount and estimated the separate insurance cost for the remount at about $3,500. Commissioner Jeff Nelson moved to renew EMS coverage and Commissioner Ryan Coleman seconded; the renewal passed unanimously.
Auditor Judith Gumbel asked the board to appropriate $20,000 the local health department received from the Indiana Department of Health (PHEP BP2). The board approved that supplementary appropriation 3-0 on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Nelson, seconded by Commissioner Ryan Coleman.
Commissioners also approved an EMA salary reimbursement agreement for $18,000 and granted the county administrator’s request to change to a four-day, 10-hour workweek (Monday–Thursday); both motions passed on recorded 3-0 votes.
