The Gilroy Unified School District Board adopted its 2025–26 budget and approved an education protection account (EPA) spending plan tied to Prop 55/Prop 30 revenues at its regular meeting.
District staff told the board the local budget presented for adoption remains based on the May Revision assumptions and that the state’s final actions — including Senate Bill 101 and final Prop 98 allocations — could require adjustments after the governor signs the budget. The superintendent warned that a once‑promised student support discretionary block grant has been cut substantially in recent budget iterations: "the one‑time allocation of the student support discretionary block grant was initially $1.8 billion in January ... and now it's only $500 million," staff said, reducing the district's expected one‑time funds.
Trustees then moved to adopt the 2025–26 budget as presented; the motion passed. The board separately adopted resolution 2425‑46 to allocate EPA/Prop revenues for 2025–26. The roll‑call vote on the resolution recorded trustees voting in favor with one trustee absent.
Why it matters: The adopted budget sets district spending and reserves amid ongoing state budget negotiations; potential changes at the state level could prompt a revised budget in August if new revenues or allocations emerge.
Next steps: Staff will monitor final state action, provide a revised budget if necessary at the August meeting, and post any updated LCAP/budget documents on the district website.
