Gilroy Unified honors Workability partners; library supervisor and community members praise district supports

The Gilroy Unified School District Board recognized seven community partners for supporting the district’s Workability vocational program, which provides on‑the‑job training for students receiving special education services.

Superintendent Dr munchi thanked partners including Goodwill of Silicon Valley, Applebee’s, Walgreens, Gilroy Library, Ace Hardware, Cali Pet Goods and Los Cuates for providing hands‑on tasks that help students build retail and hospitality skills. "We are very grateful on behalf of the Gilroy Unified School District and our students," Dr munchi said while inviting partners forward to receive plaques.

During public comment, Celis Munos Rosas, a supervising librarian at the Gilroy Library, told the board the partnership has helped library services and cited a successful summer‑reading kickoff: "so far we have a little over 500 that have signed up for summer reading." Community member Greg Felios offered praise for district staff and the recent graduation season, urging the board to continue resourcing frontline workers.

Why it matters: The Workability program gives students supervised experience in real workplaces, and board recognition signals continued district support and community partnerships that feed into transition and employment pathways for students with disabilities.

The board did not take an additional vote tied to the recognitions; representatives accepted plaques and the meeting proceeded to regular business.
