Council approves July 17 Commercial Street mixer with Chamber and Contractors Association

The Nevada City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a special-event request from the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and the Nevada County Contractors Association to stage a July 17 mixer on Commercial Street.
Sean Grayson, city staff, told council the city had worked with the Chamber and the Contractors Association to host the annual mixer in Nevada City this year and that the Chamber will handle event noticing, insurance, liquor licensing and health permits. The event footprint would be between the ballards on Commercial Street with part of Pine Street used for food trucks; setup is planned for 3:30 p.m., the event will run 5 to 8 p.m. with breakdown by 8:30 p.m.
Tom Lass, executive director of the Nevada County Contractors Association, said the association wanted to bring the mixer to Nevada City and to honor Bill Falcone on his retirement. "We really wanted to have a mixer ... to really celebrate Bill too and just for all of his accomplishments and support for the community," Lass said.
Council members raised no objections and approved the motion to permit the event; the vote was 5'0'to''0. The city and Chamber plan to coordinate fire-safety presence for at least the event's first hour and to ensure all permits and health requirements are met.
What happens next: staff said the Chamber will distribute notices to local businesses and will handle permits; the council expects the event to move forward on July 17 as approved.
