Pike County meeting roundup: bridge inspection contract approved; EMS insurance renewed; cemetery boundary noted

Bridge inspections: Highway Office Manager Melanie Britton said the Federal Highway Administration requested additional inspection of box culverts. The board approved a revised contract with Pike-VS Engineering for bridge inspections, voting 3-0 to accept the change.
INDOT amendment tabled: An amendment to the Pike-INDOT agreement for CR 300 N was placed on the agenda and the commissioners tabled the item for further consideration.
EMS insurance: EMS Director Chris Young reported he had picked up the county's new remount ambulance and said adding that vehicle and Stryker power-load cots to the EMS policy would cost "about $3,500". Commissioners voted 3-0 to renew the EMS insurance with RT Insurance; staff will finalize the policy once the equipment is formally added to the policy and the final premium is calculated.
Flat Creek Cemetery: Commissioner Jeff Nelson reported that a recent survey showed the fence around Flat Creek Cemetery is not on the legal property line; he said the county will need to investigate options to resolve the boundary discrepancy.
Extension interns and other reports: CED Brooke Goble asked whether 17-year-old students could participate in the extension's summer intern program for work experience; Attorney Val Fleig asked a clarifying question and commissioners expressed no objection. EMA/E-911 Director Kyler Henry said FEMA training emphasized getting photos of buildings and equipment "before" an emergency, a step the county will take to improve preparedness. Highway Superintendent Josh Byrd reported a new box culvert was installed and a bridge on 400 N will be removed next week for work.
