John Patterson, one of the owners of DAT Wingspot LLC, told the Macomb City Council on June 16 that his restaurant at 928 West Jackson Street is open now on a summer schedule and is seeking a Class R (restaurant) liquor license to serve bottled beer.
Patterson described the business’s hours (weekdays and weekend hours under a summer schedule), said the venue will focus on bottled beer rather than mixed drinks, and said the owners hope to host small concerts and create a destination for residents. "Beer and chicken goes together," Patterson told the council as he described the concept.
City staff told council they conducted background checks on the principal who will serve as resident manager and found no law‑enforcement issues that would prevent issuance. The application does not request Sunday sales, and staff said they had posted notice, scheduled a public hearing and had not received written protests.
Council held first reading on an ordinance to create the Class R license and referred the item for further committee‑of‑the‑whole discussion and the next week’s committee schedule. Staff said that if the ordinance is adopted, the city will still require applicable site plan and occupancy steps before a business could fully operate with alcohol sales.
