Commission hears preview of rezoning and special-use requests for vehicle sales at Flanigan site

The Hampshire Planning & Zoning Commission previewed several development items scheduled for a Nov. 25 hearing, including an annexation accompanied by rezoning, a staff-filed text amendment to allow automobile sales lots in the M-2 district, and a petitioner’s special-use request to allow vehicle sales at 167 Flanigan.
Staff explained the Flanigan parcels are adjacent to an already-developed area and observed that semi trucks and other commercial vehicles are currently parked on the site. "It looks like a semitruck dealership already," a staff presenter said, adding that the petitioner is bringing the request to legalize existing vehicle storage and sales operations.
Commissioners discussed the scope of the rezoning and special use, including whether it pertains to new or used vehicles and the parcels involved. Staff said these items will return for formal action at the next hearing and reminded commissioners they will receive formal applications and staff reports ahead of the November meeting.
Commissioners noted other local items recently forwarded to the board, including variances for Arrowhead Drive properties, and emphasized they would review the Flanigan proposals in detail when the formal packet is available.
