West Chicago Development Committee advances Synergy Power's solar farm permit extension

The Development Committee voted unanimously Aug. 11 to forward Synergy Power's request for an extension of its special use permit for a 16-acre solar farm in the Airport District to the full council after staff said federal (FAA) review is delaying progress.
At the Development Committee meeting on Aug. 11, a staff member told aldermen that Synergy Power is seeking an extension of an existing special use permit for a 16-acre solar farm located in the Airport District on the west side of Kress Road and that the project is stalled in review at the Federal Aviation Administration.
"The project, however, is stalled in review at the FAA level," a staff member said, noting prior staff review had found the proposal consistent with local standards. Alderman Matthew Myers asked whether the parcel, which was previously owned by the airport, is taxed; staff confirmed the city collects property taxes on that parcel.
Alderman Birch Ferguson moved to forward the extension request to the full City Council; Alderman Swiatek seconded. The committee called the roll and those present voted unanimously to send the item to the council for final consideration.
The staff member said prior local reviews found the request consistent with applicable local criteria and expressed hope the FAA review would move quickly so the matter could proceed. The committee did not take final action; the extension request will appear on the full council agenda next Monday.
