Burr Ridge police: suspect charged after woman dies; investigation ongoing

The Burr Ridge Police Chief updated the Board of Trustees on Feb. 24 that an arrest in a domestic-violence incident has resulted in upgraded charges after the victim died.
The chief said officers were called Feb. 21 at about 6:38 p.m. to a home in the 9100 block of Madison for a reported domestic battery. Oscar Rodriguez Jr., 37, was initially charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery; pretrial release was denied. The chief reported that the victim died of her injuries and that Rodriguezs charges were upgraded to first-degree murder the following morning. He is being held at the DuPage County Jail pending further court proceedings.
The chief said the investigation is ongoing and declined to provide more specific details to avoid compromising the investigation and to limit additional trauma for the family. He thanked DuPage County States Attorney Bob Berlin, investigators and Burr Ridge officers who worked on the case.
No further public action was taken; the chief said he would provide updates as appropriate and is coordinating with the county prosecutor. The board received the report and offered thanks to police staff for their work.
