Senator Stuts told the committee he has been working over the offseason on a bill addressing the veterinary client–patient relationship but postponed committee consideration to meet with the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and other stakeholders.
He said earlier urgency has diminished and that he scheduled a 3:00 p.m. meeting with association representatives to refine language rather than attempt floor amendments. Stuts said the draft has been reviewed by some groups — he cited approval from cattlemen and extension veterinarians — but that the association still had unresolved issues.
The senator asked the committee to carry the bill over for further work and expects to present a revised bill at the next meeting.
