Council approves grant applications and authorizes community foundation funds for ambulance services; WIC peer counselor funding moved between accounts

LaGrange County Council members on March 9 approved a request to apply for a Community Corrections grant and authorized distribution of endowment funds from the LaGrange County Community Foundation to support county ambulance services.
Brett Hays, Executive Director of Northeast Indiana Community Corrections, asked the council to approve a grant application for 2027 that would fund a full-time probation officer and a Drug Court coordinator for LaGrange County. Councilmember Jeffrey A. Campos moved to approve the application; Jeffrey L. Brill seconded and the motion carried unanimously (6-0, Harold D. Gingerich absent).
County Auditor Kathryn Hopper reported that the LaGrange County Community Foundation has $42,879 available to grant in 2026 from its endowment. Councilmember Michael G. Strawser moved to authorize those funds to be distributed to the county for countywide ambulance services; Ryan J. Riegsecker seconded and the motion carried unanimously (6-0).
Auditor Hopper also presented amendments to the county salary ordinance affecting WIC peer counselor pay. The amendments specify that the WIC peer counselor position (up to 10 hours per week at up to $15.30/hour) will be paid from fund 8102 rather than fund 8104, with effective dates noted as 10/01/2025 (retroactive for the 2025 amendment) and 01/01/2026 for the 2026 amendment.
