The LaGrange County Council on March 9 approved most items in an Ordinance of Additional Appropriations for 2026 while withholding action on a $10,344,952 Major Moves request for a highway garage.
President James R. Young presented the ordinance listing multiple requests, including a proposed $1,000,000 appropriation to the County General fund for health insurance costs and $125,429.43 from the LIT Public Safety fund to purchase pagers for volunteer fire departments. Councilmember Michael G. Strawser moved to approve the ordinance with the exception of the Major Moves highway garage appropriation; Councilmember Jeffrey A. Campos seconded and the motion carried unanimously (6-0, Harold D. Gingerich absent).
Strawser also moved to waive the requirement for a second reading; Ryan J. Riegsecker seconded and the waiver carried unanimously.
Separately, the council adopted Resolution No. 2026-03-09 to transfer $1,000,000 from the County General Fund to the Health Insurance Fund to cover self-funded plan costs. Strawser moved the resolution, Riegsecker seconded, and the resolution was approved unanimously (6-0).
Council members said the Major Moves request would be handled in a joint session, and the ordinance was approved without that line-item so the council could move forward with other budget items. No additional conditions or amendments to the approved appropriations were recorded in the minutes.
The council will reconvene with the appropriate partners to consider the Major Moves highway garage request.
