Milton CRA approves March minutes and financials; hears veterans center announcement and training notice

The board heard Chaplain Tim Chandler describe the newly opened Mission Next Center at the Pensacola State College Milton campus and invited the public to a veterans resource fair "from 5 to 7" the following day. Chandler, who identified himself as a certified national veteran service officer, said he can assist veterans with VA claims and appeals and encouraged people to visit the center.
A committee member introduced Austin Discoli as the city's new IT systems analyst, noting Discoli previously served in the U.S. Coast Guard, is studying cybersecurity at the University of West Florida and is expected to complete a master's degree in information technology in December.
On procedural business, a committee member moved to approve the March 19, 2026 minutes; the motion was seconded by Councilwoman Farrow and adopted by unanimous voice vote. The board then reviewed profit-and-loss statements for CRA 1, 2 and 3. A question was raised about a ledger line labeled "Ed, 3515, promotional," and a board member clarified the line represented $95.15 in revenue, not a negative expense. A motion to approve the financial reports was made and seconded by council leadership; the reports were approved unanimously.
Staff announced a Florida Redevelopment Association board training scheduled for June 12 in Panama City from 9 a.m. to noon, to be presented by the association's attorney. Staff encouraged board members and personnel to attend and noted that holding trainings in the Panhandle could reduce travel costs for local participants.
A committee member reported that surplus Christmas trees had arrived and said arrangements were made to donate an older tree to the town of Century; no board objections were recorded. With no members of the public signed up to appear for CRA business, the chair adjourned the CRA portion of the session and directed participants to reset for the Sun Valley utilities of Milton meeting set to begin at 5:45 p.m.
The meeting did not record any formal ordinances, resolutions or contested votes; actions taken were approvals of minutes and financial reports.
