Assessors described their FY27 request as largely level-funded and emphasized outreach and assistance efforts that accompanied the tax-bill insert this year. The office reported a surge of calls in January after tax bills issued and said staff responded to hundreds of inquiries promptly.
The assessors' office said it has seen increased exemption applications and processed a notably large number of motor-vehicle excise abatements in the recent cycle. Staff encouraged residents to apply for statutory relief programs—circuit breaker, veteran and other exemptions—and noted the city is awaiting state home-rule legislation that would create a local relief fund (the transcript reports the bill has passed one chamber and is in the Senate).
Assessors said outreach, telephone assistance and community visits help residents navigate relief options and that additional state legislation would expand the city’s ability to help residents who fall through existing program gaps.
