The Renton City Council adopted two proclamations on April 6 recognizing community observances. Terresa Nishi described volunteer roles across city boards, parks and police events, and invited residents to a volunteer appreciation dinner at Renton Technical College. Volunteers Janette Edwards, Jessica Lowour and Sydney Lowour joined Nishi and shared brief remarks on their experience serving community sports and police events.
Council also adopted a proclamation recognizing Sikh Heritage Month (Visaki Day) in April 2026. The proclamation noted cultural contributions and invited residents to community celebrations in nearby cities. Rupy Cower, a member of the Mayor’s Inclusion Task Force, accepted the proclamation and thanked the council for recognition of Sikh traditions, inviting residents to local cultural events.
Both proclamations were adopted by council motion and voice vote, and recipients posed for photos before the council continued the meeting.
