The Brookfield Planning & Zoning Commission on July 24 recommended approval of a set of parking-related variances that would allow Cornerstone child care to occupy and adapt a commercial building at 8400 Brookfield Avenue near the Hollywood train stop.
Applicants Emily Hansen, an attorney representing Walsh Construction, and Jose Alvarez, who identified himself as a Cornerstone owner, told the commission they plan to expand the existing daycare to about 120 children and would staff the facility with roughly 18 employees. Hansen said the proposal combines (a) removing the single required loading space to create play area and two additional parking stalls, (b) permitting two parallel parking spaces off the alley, and (c) reducing the zoning code's required parking from 43 spaces to 19. With all modifications approved, Hansen said the site could provide 19 on-site spaces; with some approvals it would provide 17 or hold at 15.
