The bid board voted to award the downtown summer maintenance contract to MP Lawn Care during its March meeting after reviewing three bids and a packet breakdown prepared by staff. A committee member moved to award the contract to MP Lawn Care; another committee member seconded the motion and it carried despite one member voicing opposition.
The board discussed cost and familiarity with existing vendors. "I would consider keeping Mofield. Considering the price, they're pretty close. Mofield is a little more familiar," said a committee member who favored retaining Mofield Property Services because of its local experience. Another committee member said they had previously worked with Mofield staff on shoreline clearing and praised their communication.
Maintenance staff Jamie told the board it had received three quotes — from MP Lawn Care, Mofield Property Services and Conland Property Management — and that Liz prepared a bid comparison in the meeting packet. Budget concerns were repeatedly raised: one board member noted limited funds and argued for the lowest responsible bidder.
After the vote, the MP Lawn Care representative agreed to begin work promptly, saying, "Can you please start tomorrow? No, no joke. . . if you guys could start as soon as possible to get the downtown cleaned up." The board asked the contractor to start as soon as scheduling permits.
The board did not provide roll-call vote counts or individual vote names in the transcript; meeting discussion recorded a single voiced opposition but no names were attached to the votes. Staff will follow up on contract paperwork and start dates.
Next procedural steps: staff will finalize the contract and notify the successful bidder; the board's next meeting is scheduled for April 13.
