Members cited specific programs, including the Ku Hana Business Program, the Hawaiian Trades Academy and the Hawaiian Way Fund, and noted the council’s role in disaster response during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Maui wildfires.
Representative Kila, who also spoke in support, said the council has "served one of the lifelines during the COVID-19 pandemic" and highlighted its work repatriating iwi kūpuna and cultural artifacts across the state. Speakers credited the organization with expanding access to capital and housing counseling as a Native Hawaiian Community Development Financial Institution and a HUD-certified housing counseling agency. The mover and seconder asked the House to adopt the resolution; with no opposition voiced, the Speaker announced the motion carried.
