The Goodland City Commission voted unanimously to approve several capital and operational items during its meeting, including replacement of water‑treatment filter media, roof work at the city shop, contracting mowing services and a police incinerator to destroy seized narcotics.
Commissioners approved the lowest responsible bid from Carbon Enterprises Inc. to replace media at the water treatment plant for $119,150 after staff said the existing media (installed in 2020) shows signs of plugging and lower nitrates capture. Plant staff told commissioners media life is typically five to seven years and replacements are driven by water quality and pressure differentials.
The commission also approved awarding roof replacement work for the city shop to Miller Construction. The preferred option removes the existing roof, inspects and, if required, replaces a guttering system; the contract range is $119,000 to $137,000 depending on gutter replacement needs.
Other approved items included awarding a contract mowing bid to Travis Jones at $50 per hour, confirming two library board appointments (Brad Schik and reappointment of Joy Hayden), and approving the 2026 utility charge‑offs after staff reviewed collection attempts. The commission approved buying a site incinerator for the police department (quoted at $6,010) to allow on‑site destruction of seized drugs and paraphernalia rather than transport.
Where provided, commissioners recorded roll‑call votes and all listed motions passed by recorded 'yes' votes.
