Garden City — The City Council unanimously approved a resolution April 6 to adopt the 2025 Wayne County Hazard Mitigation Plan, an update the city needs to remain eligible for certain FEMA disaster‑mitigation grants.
Fire Chief and acting city manager Randy Keen presented the plan and said the county compiled the assessment with input from 42 communities; the full plan is available online and is roughly 457 pages. Keen noted that adopting the county plan does not impose a direct cost on Garden City but is required to keep the city eligible for federal mitigation funding in the event of future disasters.
Councilmember Hughes asked whether adoption imposes any cost; staff answered there is no local cost associated with formal adoption. The council approved the resolution by a 7‑0 vote and asked staff to post the plan link on the city website for public review.
The adoption updates the previous 2020 plan and preserves the city’s standing for future FEMA grants tied to hazard mitigation planning.
