Board staff presented financial statements showing a year‑to‑date deficit of roughly $354,278 and a reserve balance of about $775,006. Executive Director Roxanna Gamusio said higher costs for inspections, increased technology expenses and complaint volume contributed to the shortfall.
Board members asked whether the board faces a minimum reserve requirement; Gamusio replied there is no statutory minimum but when a board runs a deficit for two consecutive years staff may need to justify the shortfall to the legislature. "When the board is in the red as a deficit for two years in a row, we go before the legislative body to justify why we are not self sufficient," she said. Members noted they had no immediate plan to raise license fees but would monitor the deficit and discuss options if it continued.
The board accepted the budget report as informational and requested staff continue to monitor expenditures and reserves.
