The Mobile County Commission read and adopted a resolution May 11 recognizing Scott Wright, general and artistic director of the Mobile Opera, as a recipient of the 2026 Johnny D. Riley Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. The resolution cited Wright's decades of service in more than 100 productions and leadership across arts organizations and educational programs that support the region's performing arts.
Wright addressed the commission and thanked county leaders for supporting the arts. "I'd also like to thank the county commissioners for their devotion to the arts... They've been great supporters of the performing arts in Mobile," he said. Commissioners posed for photographs with Wright and his wife, Sarah, following the recognition.
