Planning staff previews parking study and large housing project moving toward permits

At the end of the April 6 meeting planning division staff updated the commission on several ongoing work efforts. The planning division director said staff is overhauling the department website for clearer public information, coordinating a downtown parking study that could consider paid on‑street parking, and preparing for compliance with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)/Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) transit‑oriented communities requirements with a mid‑2027 compliance horizon.
Staff also reported a developer change for the previously entitled housing project at 1100 El Camino Real. The new developer is picking up existing entitlements; demolition is expected soon and building permits were anticipated in May. Staff described the project as approximately 380 housing units and said specific entitlement details, including parking ratios, would be clarified as permit submittals proceed.
Staff said the commission will see presentations this spring and summer on station area amendments, parking studies and additional design review cases.
