Geneva approves mosquito abatement contract; council asks about trap coverage and fogging triggers

The Geneva City Council approved Resolution 2026-33 to authorize a service agreement with Clark Environmental Mosquito Management to perform the fiscal-year 2027 mosquito abatement program in an amount not to exceed $56,443.
Alder Malaki asked whether the city could expand the number of traps for Culex mosquitoes; Director Babaca replied that there are currently three traps in Geneva—one dedicated to Culex and two general-population traps—and that the city participates in a data exchange with the county health department and the Illinois Department of Public Health. Babaca said the city will put the service out to bid next year and could add trap locations as an alternate specification in future solicitations.
Council members also asked about the criteria that trigger fogging. Staff said fogging is regionally coordinated and occurs only when a trap returns a positive West Nile virus result or when a human case is detected.
Motion and vote: The motion to approve Resolution 2026-33 was made by Kasarog, seconded by Bin, and approved by roll call 10–0.
