Nevada City Public Arts commissioners discussed a proposed partnership with the Truckucky public arts commission on May 7, focusing on learning from Truckucky’s arts master plan and exploring joint projects.
Committee member Sean, reporting on recent meetings with Truckucky representatives, said Truckucky has an arts master plan and several funded larger-scale projects. He described possibilities ranging from joint field trips to site visits of Truckucky installations, to shared grant-writing for multi-site proposals like the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) multi-location applications.
Commissioners discussed logistics for an in-person field trip and how the Brown Act affects travel (publish an agenda and avoid deliberation while traveling). Staff noted Truckucky uses interactive story maps and that a site visit could inspire ideas for multi-jurisdictional grants, including trail-head installations that connect both cities. Several commissioners supported a fall field trip and asked staff to return with options for scheduling and next steps.
Staff and commissioners also discussed differences in structure and resourcing: Truckucky has a different commission composition and some operating money for projects, while Nevada City’s commission is earlier in planning with fewer large-scale projects. The commission directed staff to pursue follow-up conversations and report back with possible meeting dates and a draft itinerary for a visit later in the year.
