Sumner held a public hearing April 6 on the 2027–2032 Six‑Year Transportation Improvement Program (Six‑Year TIP). Assistant Engineering Manager Courtney Latrrell summarized the plan, noted the city’s statutory obligation to update and file the TIP with the state department of transportation, and highlighted several projects in the near term.
Latrell said the Steuart Road bridge replacement is under construction and expected to be completed in 2028. She said bids for the Washington Street preservation project opened the previous Monday and work is expected to begin within months. The Maple Street pedestrian signal and citywide signal backplate project is currently suspended while the city procures signal poles and equipment; Latrell said that project is expected to be finished in the fall once equipment is available.
The hearing was opened for public comment; no members of the public registered to speak in person or via Zoom and the hearing was closed after council invited comment and received none. Latrell noted the update had been presented earlier at a March 9 study session and that the ordinance implementing the Six‑Year TIP would proceed according to statutory timelines.
The council closed the hearing at 6:15 p.m. and moved on to other agenda items.
