At the April 20 meeting, County Engineer Danny Hollander presented procurement and expenditure items for the Highway Department, and the commissioners approved the recommendations unanimously.
Bids for 2026 Hot Mix and Liquid Asphalt were opened; Hollander reported that Milestone Contractors of Columbus submitted the winning Hot Mix pricing and that Terry Asphalt Materials of Hamilton submitted the winning Liquid Asphalt prices. Commissioner Larry S. Kleinhenz moved to award the Hot Mix contract to Milestone Contractors and the Liquid Asphalt contract to Terry Asphalt Materials; Commissioner Carl H. Lienhoop seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Hollander also presented a proposal to rent a 65' reach long‑stick excavator from Hardcore Construction to repair a slide on Sunland Road caused by Clifty Creek. The quoted cost was $350 per hour for eight hours plus $350 move‑in and $350 move‑out for a total quote of $3,500. Commissioner Lienhoop moved to approve the rental and the motion passed unanimously.
The commissioners ratified two prior Highway Department expenditures: Crafco materials for a crack‑seal rental (RoadSaver Silicone Crack Sealer, 22,500 lbs. at $0.58/lb., total $14,147.25 including freight) and IMI Indiana repair of CR 800 S due to a washout ($6,698.20).
