Pasco City will open its April 6 City Council meeting with a public hearing on a proposed franchise agreement that would let NFC Northwest, an affiliate of Ziply Fiber, use city rights‑of‑way to install and maintain fiber‑optic cables for high‑speed internet, the city communications coordinator said.
The public hearing provides residents an opportunity to offer support, concerns or objections before the council considers approving the franchise, Alyssa Warner, Pasco Communications Coordinator, said in a meeting preview. The hearing is the formal place for public comment on the proposal.
The preview did not include details of the franchise terms such as length, fees, performance requirements or compensation to the city. Those terms will need to be available to the public at the hearing or in the council packet for council consideration.
If the council proceeds, members are expected to hear public testimony first and then discuss any council questions or conditions before taking a formal vote at a later meeting, Warner said. The preview did not say whether a vote will occur the same night.
The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. April 6 and the public may watch the meeting live on the city's Facebook and YouTube pages.
