The Morgan County Sheriff described a planned evidence storage facility west of the county jail and asked the commissioners to authorize the procurement process.
The sheriff said the facility will contain cold‑storage bays for evidence, a separate bay for community corrections equipment, and an outdoor locked area to store cars and other large items that currently occupy indoor space. He described the building footprint as sizable and said the design will include multiple 14‑foot exterior doors and a lift to allow vehicle entry for evidence recovery and examination. The sheriff told commissioners the building is intended to be durable and to provide long‑term capacity.
County Administrator Kyle Swalls and the board agreed the project is needed and authorized publication of an RFPQ to select a firm to construct the facility. Commissioners approved moving ahead with the RFPQ by unanimous vote and asked staff to ensure the project’s scope, scheduling and funding align with the county’s capital planning.
